If a GFCI trips repeatedly, wiring is damaged, electronics smell hot, the fan or auger needs disassembly, or the cause remains uncertain, stop using the grill and contact Traeger or a qualified electrician.

Do not treat a Slow Ignition notice as identical to Failed to Ignite. Traeger says slow ignition can reflect cold weather, low fuel, or an overfilled firepot and may be informational. A failed-to-ignite error means the grill did not establish the expected flame and temperature rise.

- Remove food only if you can do so without exposure to flame or heavy smoke.
- Use the controller’s normal shutdown cycle when it is functioning.

Traeger uses different controller and ignitor designs across non-WiFIRE, D2 WiFIRE, touchscreen Timberline/Ironwood, Woodridge, and other families. Follow the article matched to the exact error and model; do not assume a wiring diagram from a different grill applies.
Step 2: If There Is No Power
With the grill unplugged, inspect the plug and cord for cuts, crushed sections, heat damage, bent prongs, or moisture. Do not tape over damaged insulation and continue cooking.
Confirm the outlet works using a safe known device or its test/reset process. Outdoor grill circuits should have appropriate protection. If the GFCI or breaker trips again when the grill is connected, stop. Repeated resetting can hide a real fault.
Avoid an extension cord unless the exact owner’s manual permits one and specifies its rating. Voltage drop, undersized cable, wet connections, and coiled cords create additional hazards.
If the outlet is sound but the grill remains dead, contact Traeger with the model, serial number, and test result. Controller replacement or internal electrical diagnosis is outside a basic cleaning check.
Step 3: Check Pellet Quality and Supply
Good pellets should be dry, firm, and break with a snap rather than crumble into damp sawdust. Swollen, dull, soft, or clumped pellets can jam the auger and fail to ignite consistently.
After the grill is cool and unplugged, inspect the hopper and visible pellets near the end of the auger. Remove excessive sawdust according to the manual. Do not put hands or tools into an auger path while the grill has power.
If the hopper ran empty, the auger tube may need a model-specific prime cycle before pellets reach the firepot. Use the controller instructions for that grill. An auger turns intermittently by design; pauses do not automatically mean the motor has failed.
Step 4: Clean and Reset the Firepot
Remove the grates, drip tray, and heat baffle only after everything is cool and unplugged. Inspect the firepot for a hard ash puck, excess pellets, compacted sawdust, grease contamination, or blocked air holes.
Clean cold ash with the method approved in the owner’s manual. Keep the ignitor protected and avoid striking or bending it. Reassemble the baffle, tray, and grate in their correct orientation before any startup test.

Traeger notes that the exposed tip of a hot rod does not need to glow red to work. Judging it by color can lead to an unnecessary replacement or dangerous closer inspection.
Step 6: Follow the Error-Specific Path
Failed to Ignite / 0007 / ER07
Current Traeger guidance lists low or poor pellets, an empty or overfilled firepot, an ash puck, startup with the lid in the wrong position for that model, lost power, or an ignitor problem. Clear only the safe user-serviceable causes, then repeat the official startup once.
Ignitor or heater disconnected
Do not improvise a jumper or twist wires together. Traeger’s model-specific instructions may include checking a connector after unplugging, but damaged plugs, melted wires, or an uncertain match require support.
Auger not turning
Remember that intermittent rotation is normal. Wet-pellet jams can require substantial disassembly and force. Follow the specific support path or arrange service rather than reaching into the feed tube.
Fan disconnected or no airflow
Do not run the grill without the combustion fan or defeat a door/lid switch. Poor airflow can cause failed ignition, smoke backup, unstable fire, and excess pellets.
Repeated GFCI Trips: Stop Here
Traeger says ignitor failure can trip a GFCI and that ash buildup may physically contact the ignitor. Even if cleaning a fully cold firepot removes visible ash, repeated tripping is an electrical stop condition.
Disconnect the grill and contact Traeger support or a qualified electrician. Do not move to a non-GFCI outlet, remove the grounding pin, use an adapter to defeat protection, or reset the breaker repeatedly.
What Not to Do
- Do not add lighter fluid, gel, gasoline, or a torch to a pellet-filled firepot.
- Do not keep pressing IGNITE while unburned pellets accumulate.
- Do not touch the hot rod or fan during a powered test.
- Do not vacuum hot ash or embers.
- Do not bypass interlocks, sensors, grounding, fuses, or GFCI protection.
- Do not install a part based only on appearance; match exact model and official part number.

When the Grill Lights but Runs Cool
A grill that establishes flame but cannot reach the set temperature is no longer an ignition-only problem. Pellet quality, airflow, lid closure, weather, grease/ash accumulation, sensor condition, and controller behavior may matter.
